Brian began volunteering in physical therapy clinics when he was 16 years old. This early inspiration was sparked by his sister who was studying physical therapy at the time; she practiced everything on him and, at the same time, she taught him about the profession of physical therapy.
At 18, Brian received the Regional New England Health Care Scholarship for academic excellence from the National Golub Foundation. At 20, he was accepted into Syracuse’s Upstate Medical University as the youngest student of the Master’s Physical Therapy Program, the highest-rated and most competitive PT program in New York State. He received thorough training and education in New York’s best sports and orthopedic centers, rehabilitation clinics, trauma hospitals, and spinal cord injury units.
After graduating, Brian moved to Boston and began working at Performing Arts Physical Therapy in Brookline where he trained in the rehabilitation of musicians and dancers. Being a musician himself, this is one specialty of physical therapy that Brian especially enjoys and continues to work in.
In 2004, Brian opened Barkwell Physical Therapy inside of Boston’s best gym, Revolution Fitness, in order to provide a more fitness-oriented experience for his clients. During his 7 years here, Brian earned an excellent reputation among South End and Back residents, particularly as a go-to practitioner for those with injuries sustained through exercise and weight training. In 2011, Barkwell Physical Therapy moved into Saldare Body Therapy, a beautiful private training and massage studio in the heart of Boston’s historic South End. Now practicing in a more private and intimate atmosphere, Brian continues to use his manual skills and knowledge of therapeutic exercise to bring people back from injury.

THERAPIST THURSDAY! Mark graduated from The Massage Institute of New England in 1996 having completed 1,000 professional hours. He then studied 200 professional hours with world renowned Rolfer, Tom Myers, (Anatomy Trains). Mark was voted 2006 “Best of Boston for Massage Therapist” in the Improper Bostonian. His review read as: You won’t see any advertisements for Mark F Dodd’s services. In fact, you won’t even be able to find him in the yellow pages. He’s always done just fine by word of mouth. Truth be told, we’re a little reluctant to share the secret. Dodd uses a combination of Swedish/Deep tissue massage techniques on a clientele that includes some of the hardest bodies in Boston. He’s under contract to Boston Ballet (located across the street) to work with the dancers, and a lot of theatre people passing through town manage to hear about him as well. Once you have paid a visit to this muscular ex- chef, you might discover new muscles you never knew you had. There are no oils, no lotions, no wraps. It is just you, the Tiger Balm/Bio-Tone combo and Dodd’s gifted hands. --- In addition to working with Boston Ballet since 2001, Mark has worked on dancers and choreographers from many ballet companies including Royal, Kirov, San Francisco, New York City, American Ballet Theater, and Mark Morris. In November 2010 Mark graduated from “The Aesthetic Institute of Boston” having completed 300+ hours of studies. He currently offers aesthetics, facials, and waxing using European organic products by Weleda International. ... See MoreSee Less
